News about Google’s Algorithms
There was a significant spike in the weather tools over the weekend, as well as a fair bit of chatter in the Webmaster World forums as reported by Barry. We dive into detail for our premium subscribers.
Google Announcements
Heads up, you may see a spike in data
Did you see a spike in your GSC performance report? Barry Schwartz wrote an article on Search Engine Roundtable on why this may have happened.
Google Search Console performance report with the news and good page experience filters on, may result in a spike in impressions and clicks in the report "due to a logging change” https://t.co/xVest5LJc2 pic.twitter.com/R2LDf5zIE8

Google SERP Changes
New additions to Search
Google announced a few weeks ago that in the SERPs they should be rolling out:
- Things to consider
- Refine this search
- Broaden this search
Although many people haven’t noticed this yet, with all the other changes going on in the SERPs, we wouldn’t be surprised to see click-through rate and volatility fluctuations.
SEO Tips
Great reminder about site quality
Does size matter? Not according to Google! Sites that are constantly releasing “long-form content” will still be impacted by broad core algorithm updates, regardless of its size. For Google, a combination of good quality and well-structured content is the key component to ranking better.
Good thread from Darth. I hear this often from site owners impacted by broad core updates. There are still some sites pumping out a ton of content thinking big is better. When… it's about quality, so less may be better for them. And glad Darth covered site-wide quality signals. https://t.co/LCufa80LFD

Local SEO - Tips
Getting images in mobile search results
Don’t forget about mobile search results! Sitting behind our computers most times, we can easily forget about how search results look on mobile. In this great article by Joy Hawkins, she outlines how Google shows images beside search results on mobile that otherwise don’t show up on the desktop.
While the images may not show up for every result on mobile devices, we highly recommend reading through the entire article to see how you can attempt to get images for your mobile search results.
