News about Google’s Algorithms
How MUM improved searches for vaccine information
According to this Google blog post, Google identified over 800 different variations of vaccine names people search for when looking for covid vaccine information. Determining this is something that normally would take Google weeks, but thanks to MUM, which helps Google understand language better, it took only seconds to correctly identify this information.
One of the advantages of MUM is that it can learn something in one language and then apply it to another.
We are excited to see how Google applies MUM to search. They say, “Our early testing indicates that not only will MUM be able to improve many aspects of our existing systems, but will also help us create completely new ways to search and explore information.”
MHC Announcements
There will not be a podcast episode this week.
Hey everyone, Marie here! My apologies for not having a podcast episode the last few weeks. My hope is to record a new episode next week, but we will see how things go. I am recovering well. The amazing MHC team has been thriving despite me being around less.
Google has done SO much in the last few weeks. I have a lot to talk about! But, this sickness was a doozy and I do need to rest and recover.
Thanks for your understanding and I hope to be back recording soon!
